Why I started a health and wellness company
Health and wellness seems to be all the rage these days. The topic is prominently scattered across my social media feeds and graces the cover of the majority of the magazines that I see at the checkout counter at the grocery store. Wholefoods, and the once counterculture movement of nutritious food provided by local grocers represents a case and point for wellness going mainstream in a big way, as eating healthy is no longer a niche lifestyle choice with Amazon now at the helm of the turnip truck.
Health and wellness is well, a broad term, an umbrella category to cover living a life that is balanced. As defined by the University of California Davis “Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life. Wellness is more than being free from illness, it is a dynamic process of change and growth.”
“…a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”– The World Health Organization
As much as I like riding on the latest hype wave my perspective is that this is not a trend and actually something that is fundamental to each individual through each generation, no matter what the media tells us. I see it not as a fad, but as a shift back to what matters the most in a time of constantly created fear and turmoil. It is health and wellness on a personal level that has always remained constant.
“a conscious, self-directed and evolving process of achieving full potential.”– The National Wellness Institute
I started Ion Wellness because my whole life has been centered around wellness and I feel most in alignment when I keep health and wellness as the focal point of my daily life. I grew up running around the mountains of Colorado, getting spring water and being apart of an always active community. After years of living in San Francisco the stressful startup work environment got to me and affected my mental and physical health, and so it is with a renewed revitalization that I come back to what keeps me moving. If I can help 1 person feel better for just a couple of minutes my life will be that much more meaningful and so that is why Ion Wellness is focused on utilizing acupressure to aid in active recovery.
“Fundamentally, the word “health” comes from the root word “whole.” So what we call “feeling healthy” means that we have a sense of wholeness in us. Medically, a person may be free of diseases, but that is only one part of health. When you feel like a complete human being in your body, mind and spirit, then you can be fully healthy. So there are any number of people who are healthy by medical standards, but unless they experience that sense of wellness from within, they are still lacking something. If human beings have to experience this sense of wholeness, this sense of wellness within themselves, it is important that their body, mind and above all their energies function at a certain level of intensity. “-Sadhguru via the Seattle Yoga News
